The 16th season of Grey's Anatomy will start on September 26th on ABC, which is in less than a month's time. With regard to the cast, it can be assumed that the majority of the previous cast will return. So far nothing is known about any character leaving 'Grey Sloan'.

Fans can definitely rest assured that  "Meredith" (Ellen Pompeo, 49), "Richard" (James Pickens Jr., 64), "Alex" (Justin Chambers, 49), "Teddy" (Kim Raver, 50), "Jo" (Camilla Luddington, 35) and "Andrew DeLuca" (Giacomo Gianniotti, 30) will be there when the show returns in late September. The latter posted a selfie with Pompeo from the start of shooting on Instagram at the end of July.

In addition, the previously supporting characters Chris Carmack ("Dr. Atticus 'Link' Lincoln", 38), Jake Borelli ("Dr. Levi 'Glasses' Schmitt", 28) and Greg Germann ("Dr. Thomas Koracic", 61) will be part of the main cast of the series with the start of the new season. Showrunner Krista Vernoff (45) confirmed this in an interview with Deadline.

Season 15 ended with a shock: "Meredith" as well as "Richard" and "Alex" were fired from the hospital - the future of the Grey's Anatomy is uncertain to say the least.

In fact, at the beginning of the 16th season, the three fired doctors are still without a job and have to see how they make ends meet. As Krista Vernoff confirmed to TV Line it could actually be a while until everything is back to normal.

Furthermore, "Teddy" will be seen in her new role as mother and "Jo" fights with professional help against her depression. Moreover, Vernoff also teased at a  comeback of "Jo" and "Alex" at last. She hintetd that "Jo" could find her way back to herself and back to "Alex" with the help of her therapy.

Vernoff also reveals, that "it's the season of family and it's the season of expansion, because we’re expanding the world of Grey’s Anatomy [via Station 19],"

By the way, Jesse Williams (38) will also be back as "Jackson". The last question was about a possible exit of the actor, because of his disappearance at the end of the 15th season.

Vernoff also talked to "TV Line" about her wish to bring back another former Grey's Anatomy character to the 16th season:

"I'm trying to get someone back. There’s someone I’m hoping will make an appearance this year, [but] it’s a real maybe. I’m trying." Who it is, however, is not yet known. Stay tuned for more!
