Star Lin-Manuel Miranda "can't wait" for people to see Hamilton

Hamilton's exciting news came from Disney executive chairman Bob Iger and the musical's creator Lin-Manuel Miranda on Tuesday, when the duo appeared on Good Morning America. Miranda, who also stars in Hamilton, expressed his enthusiasm about the filmed production of the hit Broadway show.

"I can't say enough about what an incredible job Tommy Kail, our director, has done with the movie," Miranda told GMA. "He's basically given everyone at home the best seat in the house. It's a thrilling experience. He really threads the needle between these cinematic close ups and winding out and seeing the show from the center aisle of the Richard Rodgers Theater, so I can't wait for you all to see it."

Hamilton performance to hit Disney+ in time for Fourth of July

Hamilton had been filmed the week before Miranda— as well as many of the other original cast members including Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Daveed Diggs, and Leslie Odom, Jr., departed the show— as Miranda revealed on GMA. "It just captures that moment in time so beautifully," he said. "Watching it brings me right back there with that incredibly, once-in-a-lifetime company."

Miranda's other film In The Heights, which is the film adaptation of his musical by the same name, was supposed to be released in theatres this summer. However, Miranda chose to postpone it to next year due to the coronavirus. Hamilton being released on July 3 will certainly fill the gap for Broadway fans though, since they can stream it just in time for Fourth of July weekend!
