In 1997 a film came to the world that would go on to become one of the great romantic films of all time: Titanic. This film directed and written by James Cameron, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, achieved great commercial and critical success. Both the representation of the disaster of the actual event, as well as a great production and an unforgettable love story, made Titanic one of the great film successes of all time!

Titanic: the film with the most Oscars in history 

Titanic managed to get a total of 14 Oscar nominations, of which it won 11, including some of the most coveted, such as Best Picture and Best Director. With the 11 Academy Awards obtained, Titanic remains one of the three most awarded films in the entire history of the Oscars, along with Ben-Hur and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

  • The main set for the film was built on the southern coast of Playas de Rosarito, in Baja California, Mexico. 
  • Titanic was the second film in history that won the Oscar for Best Picture and that portrays the historical event on which it is based; the first was Cavalcade, from 1933. 
  • The film required more than 150 extras to make.
  • It became the first film in history to be released on DVD while it continued to be shown in theaters.
