Lilibet

Queen Elizabeth II probably has the best-known nicknames in the Royal Family. First, the monarch is known to be called Lilibet by her family. The name goes back to her childhood, when she was unable to pronounce her own name, and made it sound more like "Tillabet" or "Lilibet." The story was in the spotlight in 2021, when Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan named their daughter Lilibet after the Queen.

The Queen was also said to be called Cabbage by her now late husband Prince Philip. The name came to light when it was used in the 2006 film The Queen with Helen Mirren. The filmmaker, Peter Morgan, claimed to have learned of the pet name through trusted royal sources.

Wombat

Prince William did have a more creative nickname given to him by his mother growing up. Princess Diana called her son Wombat, a name that came about while the family was touring Australia. In 2007, Prince William explained the name was "not because I look like a wombat — or maybe I do."
