Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to step back from their roles within the royal family a year ago, and a source has revealed why the couple probably won't be returning to these positions now!

Harry and Meghan have "absolutely achieved" their goal

Harry and Meghan separated from the royal family in the hopes of gaining greater agency over their own lives. After briefly living in Canada, the couple relocated to California with their son Archie, buying a home in Santa Barbara in August of 2020. And as royal expert Katie Nicholl shares, it doesn't seem likely that Harry and Meghan would choose to return to their old lives!

"The general consensus is that this 'divorce' has worked," Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight, referring to the separation between the couple and the British monarchy. "Meghan and Harry left the royal family to become independent, to become financially independent. They've absolutely achieved that this year. They can now look back a year on and probably celebrate their decision."

Harry And Meghan Are Reportedly Making Plans To Spend Some Time In Los Angeles This Summer

Harry and Meghan officially became financially independent from the royal family in September of 2020, and have gone on to land some exciting business deals! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a production deal with Netflix, and recently launched their new Spotify podcast, Archewell Audio! Meghan has also shown her support for a local female entrepreneur, investing in her wellness drink company.

"I think that the past year has shown that they have put their roots down in L.A., they are building a business model, America is their new home, and Netflix, Spotify, the deals that they have done are their financial future," Nicholl shared. "The suggestion that they are going to go back to the royal family simply isn't going to happen."

Harry and Meghan won't have "formal sit-down", Nicholl says

Harry and Meghan may not be returning to the royal family, but Nicholl says they still plan to keep their patronages! She also mentioned that "the matter over Harry's military titles is one of the few issues that remain outstanding, that does need to be tidied up." However, she explained that there won't be any kind of formalized meeting where Harry and Meghan's future will be decided by the royal family!

"Everything that they are doing is very much in keeping with that tone of respect towards the establishment and the monarchy," the royal expert explained, adding that Harry has continued to keep the lines of communication open with Queen Elizabeth II. "So this idea that there's going to be a big formal sit-down to discuss the future is really a fabrication, I think, of the press." Sounds like time will only tell what the year has in store for Harry and Meghan!
